Google Expeditions is a virtual reality app built for the classroom. Each Expedition is comprised of descriptions and points of interests for the teacher, which makes it easy to incorporate into the curriculum. Using a tablet, teachers can guide their students using virtual reality viewers.
The Pioneer Programme aimed to bring Expeditions to the classroom, giving students and teachers the chance to try out VR for free. The aim was to bring the programme to over 1 million students across the UK. As the Programme Manager, responsibilities included hiring, building and managing a team of over 40 coordinators and associates, driving them to achieve our goal whilst tracking pacing and budgets.
As well as reaching students, our aim was to increase the UK specific content within the app, bringing the total number of Expeditions available to over 600.
The project relied heavily on weekly metrics reporting to inform communications with stakeholders, marketing and PR. Streamlining complex processes and implementing workflows was essential when promoting efficiency, positive educator feedback and a happy team.
On completion of the programme, we maintained a 98% positive feedback rate, we reached well over 1 million students, travelled to over 430 UK towns and cities. Find out more about our achievements here and download Google Expeditions for free.
